This post is available in French: Kaivalya Trainer 1.2.0 disponible

Kaivalya Trainer 1.2.0 is now available. TrainUs has a new name, and it now tracks cardio.

What’s new

  • A new name: TrainUs is now Kaivalya Trainer. Your data stays where it was.
  • Cardio exercises: running, walking, cycling… with a time or distance target, usable on their own, in sessions and in combos. A session can also be marked free style, where targets are only indicative.
  • GPS tracking: a live map (IGN in France, OpenStreetMap elsewhere), distance, and elevation computed after the session from a terrain model. Without GPS, you can enter the distance by hand.
  • Pocket mode: Android stops giving your position to a web app once the screen is locked. Instead of locking the phone, let the app cover the screen: a black screen showing the time of day, your timer, your distance and the GPS state, which ignores touches and unlocks with a 3-second press. It turns on by itself after 20 s without touching the screen. See “Doing Cardio?” in the Getting Started guide.
  • Cardio sounds: a beep at half time on a countdown, a soft beep every kilometre and a loud one when you reach your distance.
  • Your tracks: view past tracks on a map, correct or add cardio values, see a per-exercise aggregated view, and export a track as GPX.
  • Cardio statistics: a strength/cardio switch on the statistics page, speed in km/h, and a progress chart for one exercise over a date range or within a session.
  • Offline maps: map tiles you’ve seen are kept, and you can download map packs for an area before heading out.
  • Credits: a page acknowledging the maps and libraries the app relies on.

Bug fixes

  • Leaving a cardio step with ✕, or the phone killing the app mid-run, no longer loses what you covered.
  • A stale first GPS position no longer adds a phantom kilometre at the start of a run.

Before you update

This version changes the database format. On first launch, the app asks you to download a backup before it upgrades your data — keep that file somewhere safe.

How to get it

The app is available at Kaivalya Trainer. It updates automatically — just reload the page in your browser.

To install or update the PWA on your device, open the app and use the browser’s install prompt (or menu → “Install app”).
